Does science make belief in God obsolete?
Now there's a question to provoke some interesting answers. The Templeton Foundation has asked a bunch of leading scientists, religieux, and atheists to answer the question. You can read all the essays online. Although some do some language parsing, they are all interesting.

Very interesting series of articles. There is a lot of word parsing in those essays, but some of it I think is reasonable. It depends what you mean by "God" and what you mean by "obsolete", I think.
Obsolete, in my opinion, implies a need for God. Saying that Science makes it redundant rather seems like setting up Science as an opposing belief system, which I don't think it is.
Religion/Faith is very much a non-proof area. I'm not keen on the people who say that the fossil record of evolution is in fact an elaborate Celestial conspiracy to test faith. NO! I am fine with people's faith; it should be accepted as a faith, and not try to prove it's legitimacy within the Scientific arena. The Universe is a strange place; what's to say there isn't a god out there somewhere? I'm just not in with the god with a big G idea, though :)
Just my thoughts, though, and a good topic, John! :) I hope I didn't cause any unintentional offence, as is normally caused when I speak about science and religion!

PS: Liked the Iron Man review, that's top of my list to see at the minute :D

Science and Belief are not necessarily opposing forces, although for some people they are, if they have a belief system that incorporates science as its "god". (i.e. the more radical forms of atheism, as well as some cults).
