Tor Announces Wizard's First Rule Weekly Series

Sam Raimi and ABC are teamin up to bring a weekly series based on Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. View the announcement here. The 22 episode series will begin broadcast in Fall 2008. I'm interested to see what they do with it.

Wizard's First Rule was probably the best of the Sword of Truth series. I've got Confessor on my TBR pile, so I'll be finishing up the story just as the TV series gets ramped up. I won't watch it when it comes out due to my lack of cable or broadcast TV, but as soon as it moves to DVD you can be sure I will watch it.

What about you? Watch or not watch? Hate Terry Goodkind or love?

On another note, who would you like to play the roles of Richard, Kahlan, Zedd or Darken Rahl?

Wait...on broadcast TV? With all the torture and rape? Shouldn't that be on HBO like Rome was?

Parts of Wizards First Rule I enjoyed very much, other parts just made me cringe. Overall, I liked it enough to purchase the second book, which I also finished. However, I didn't see any point in purchasing a third, because I was already tired of Richard and Kahlan.

A TV series might be interesting, but like Joe, I think they'll have to cut a bunch of stuff.

Yea Joe, Broadcast TV. I was a bit surprised as well.

I think they will cut things and in order to make 22 episodes are going to have to do more than one book. It would be necessary to keep viewer's interests.

By the third book (IIRC), I was sick of Goodkind's gratuitously violent/sexual content. Appears the quality of the production will be along the lines of Xena and Hercules, so I'll likely pass. Not much of a TV watcher anyway.

It's strange, but am I just completely unaware of Goodkind's content? I just can't seem to remember the violence/sex everyone keeps mentioning. Oh, I remember possible rapes, and the destruction of Richard's psyche through torture, but I don't feel it was excessively descriptive.

What am I missing here?

I'd have to say John...even though I have no idea if this is going to be read. The violence and sex/rape they are talking about..is Denna, Darken Rahl, Emperor Jagang later on..basically what men do to women in the olden days..ha.

I love the books. I think it's rotten to stop reading them after the third, because all of the books have a different story. Yes, Richard and Kahlan are the center...but there is such a difference in each novel. My favorite has to be Faith of the Fallen..it really gave me hope for humanity, but no one would read that if they stopped after the 3rd book would they?

For a few days, since I started to re-read the Stone of Tears for the third time...I was thinking of a movie or a mini-series. So I would like to watch it if it does become broadcast.
