A Bookish Challenge

I'd like to challenge everyone who reads this blog to do something for me. Answer me one question.

What are the five books in your library (or memory) that stirred the greatest emotive reaction in you?

What I mean is, what five (or more) books most brought you close to tears, laughter, anger, whatever?

My five are as follows.

1. The Five Love Languages - by Gary Chapman ( I had a lot of "aha! and "that's me!" moments.)

2. Redeeming Love - Francine Rivers (I almost cried, I didn't cause me a man person, but I came close.)

3. Men at Arms - Terry Pratchett (I still can't stop laughing at this book, I see it on my shelf and chuckle.)

4. Song of Albion Series by Stephen Lawhead (you just have to root out loud for these characters! My heart beats in my chest every time I read the books.)

5. The Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes - King Solomon (that kind of love is beautiful and that kind of depression is near to me.)

6. (ok I know I'm adding one more) A Pictorial History of Auschwitz - (nuff said.)

Let me know what really brings out the emotional in you. I'm curious, and I'm looking for books to read that will move me.

Not in order of importance - this is a hard list to construct, so I am choosing books as a sample of various genres.

Theology - G. Vos' "Biblical Theology"; changed the way I looked at the Bible. Major paradigm

Ministry - C. Bridges "Christian Ministry"; was the pivotal book that changed my view that the pastorate was for suckers to beginning to sense that call in my life. I began to see the pastoral call in a real, deep and rich way.

Fiction - D. Adams, "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"
All my favorites, Outerspace and dry, quirky British humor

Biography - B. Miller "Biography of George Muller", sustained my faith to trust God when I came on staff with Campus Crusade. One of my great heroes of the faith.

Culture: - B. McLaren, "A New Kind of Christian". This book I hated and loved at the same time. I yelled at the book and at the same time I sat in stunned silence. This book began to initiate my thinking about the changing of the guard, from Modern to Post-modern to something beyond.

Runners up:
Gagging of God, D.A. Carson.
The Religious Affections, J. Edwards
Desiring God, J. Piper
Simply Christian, N.T. Wright
Blue Like Jazz, D. Miller
Talisman series, S. Lawhead

A Woman's Journey to the Heart of God by Cynthia Heald - very impactful for me
The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers - first book I read by her, really hit home
Ice by Shane Johnson - this book was wow!
How People Grow by Henry Cloud and John Townsend - started off slow but amazing book
Trusting God by Jerry Bridges - excellent, excellent book on trusting God and His sovereignty
